چکیده

Physical, mechanical and antimicrobial properties of nylon 6 (polycaprolactam) doped with different amounts of silver nanoparticles were investigated in this study. Two series of filament yarns counts (20 and 70 Denier) were produced by melt spinning method with different amounts of silver nanoparticles contents (0, 0.5, 1 and 4 wt%). Elemental analysis of silver and titanium dioxide (present in polymer as delustering agent) was carried out by energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) methods. Tensile testing, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to characterize the yarns. Antimicrobial activities were quantitatively evaluated against Escherichia Coli (gram-negative) and Staphylococcus Aureus (grampositive) bacteria. The doped nylon 6 fibers showed a well dispersed distribution of silver nano-particles. Yarns with 0.5-1.0 wt% of silver nanoparticle content were found to have improved physical and mechanical properties, as well as, significant antimicrobial activity.

Automation in Measurement of Inverse Creep In Nylon Textile Yarns

From decades Creep has been known and studied for textile materials. In comparison, a newly observed phenomenon of inverse creep seems not to have received much attention. A new instrument has been fabricated to measure creep and inverse creep in textile materials particularly yarns. Creep and Inverse creep measurements of few of the textile yarns like nylon multifilament yarn, Polyester multif...

Inverse creep in some textile yarns

Some exploratory work on creep and inverse creep in nylon 6 monofilament, polyester multifilament yarn and wool and cotton spun yarns has been presented. It is observed that the extent of creep and inverse creep differs from material to material and depends on the initial stress. Cotton shows minimum inverse creep while nylon shows maximum inverse creep. Wool and polyester have intermediate inv...

A multiscale study of high performance double-walled nanotube-polymer fibers.

The superior mechanical behavior of carbon nanotubes (CNT) and their electrical and thermal functionalities has motivated researchers to exploit them as building blocks to develop advanced materials. Here, we demonstrate high performance double-walled nanotube (DWNT)-polymer composite yarns formed by twisting and stretching of ribbons of randomly oriented bundles of DWNTs thinly coated with pol...

Bio-inspired carbon nanotube-polymer composite yarns with hydrogen bond-mediated lateral interactions.

Polymer composite yarns containing a high loading of double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWNTs) have been developed in which the inherent acrylate-based organic coating on the surface of the DWNT bundles interacts strongly with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) through an extensive hydrogen-bond network. This design takes advantage of a toughening mechanism seen in spider silk and collagen, which contain a...

Mechanical and Electrical Properties of Carbon Nanotube / Polydimethylsiloxane Composites Yarn

Carbon nano tube (CNT) yarn is an axially aligned CNT assembly. It has great potential many applications. In this study, the mechanical and electrical properties of the aerogel-spun CNT yarns and CNT/Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) composite yarns were investigated. The CNT/PDMS yarn was fabricated by droplet infiltration of PDMS solution into the aerogel-spun CNT yarn. The mechanical properties of...
